Qualification Structure for NVQ/SVQ Level 3

Horse Care and Management Level 3 is the first level of qualification where a qualified person

assumes responsibility for others and/or may run a small yard. Competence at this level will

involve the candidate being able to apply a broad range of knowledge and skills to varied work

activities performed in a wide variety of contexts, most of which may be complex and non-routine.

They may be responsible for supervising and guiding staff, organising work routines and have a

wide range of horse knowledge.

The qualification consists of six mandatory units and one group of optional units which, when

credited to candidates, will be a valuable guide to their ability to carry out a particular task in a

stable yard or stud. It is desirable that candidates should obtain the majority of their training and

assessment in the workplace.
